Xiaomi, a company primarily recognized for its smartphones, has made a significant leap into the automotive sector with the introduction of its electric vehicle, the SU7 Ultra. This latest model has garnered attention by achieving remarkable lap times on prestigious racetracks, challenging established automotive giants such as Tesla and Porsche.

In a recent test at the Shanghai International Circuit, the SU7 Ultra completed a lap in just 2:09.944 minutes, breaking the previous record held by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT for production cars, according to claims made by Xiaomi. This achievement highlights Xiaomi's ambitious entry into the electric vehicle market.

To reinforce the credibility of this record, Xiaomi emphasized its adherence to production car standards during the testing process. The timing system used for the record was reportedly the same as that utilized in Formula 1, adding an extra layer of legitimacy to the claim.

The specifications of the SU7 Ultra are impressive, featuring a staggering 1,548 horsepower and the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 1.98 seconds. With a top speed of 350 km/h, Xiaomi confidently asserts that it has created the fastest four-door production car in the world, positioning itself directly against competitors like the Tesla Model S Plaid and the Porsche Taycan Turbo S.

In addition to the Shanghai record, the SU7 Ultra has also set remarkable times at other racing circuits, including Chengdu Tianfu Circuit, Zhuhai, and Zhuzhou. This series of achievements has raised questions about the potential for the SU7 Ultra to enter the European market.

Sales for the SU7 Ultra are set to begin in China in March 2025, with a starting price of approximately EUR105,000. However, the company's plans for exporting the vehicle to Europe remain uncertain, although there are indications that the regular SU7 may eventually be available in international markets.

In October 2024, Xiaomi previously showcased a prototype of the SU7, achieving an impressive time of 6:46.874 minutes on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. While this record was achieved by a specially modified vehicle, it drew significant attention to Xiaomi's ambitions within the automotive industry.

As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, Xiaomi's entry with the SU7 Ultra is a clear indication that competition will intensify, and established brands may need to reassess their positions.
