Mother Attempts to Give Away Baby Online, Authorities Respond

Thu 6th Mar, 2025

A mother from Cuxhaven sparked outrage after she posted an online advertisement offering her ten-month-old baby for free, claiming that only shipping costs of EUR6.75 would apply. The disturbing listing quickly caught the attention of local authorities, prompting police intervention.

In the ad, the child was described as 'naughty,' and the post included the family's full name, home address, and a photograph of the baby. This blatant act of irresponsibility led to multiple concerned citizens contacting law enforcement over the weekend.

Upon arrival, police discovered the mother, aged 22, along with the child's 20-year-old father and the baby in their home. Fortunately, the child appeared to be healthy, and the living conditions were deemed satisfactory. However, the police spokesperson described the incident as one of the most morbid pranks they had ever encountered.

While the family insisted that the ad was meant as a joke, authorities took the matter seriously. They involved the youth welfare office to ensure the child's safety and well-being. Ultimately, it was determined that there was no immediate threat to the child's welfare, meaning that no criminal charges would be filed against the parents.

Despite the disturbing nature of the incident, the authorities emphasized that there was no objective evidence of endangerment concerning the child's welfare. Nonetheless, they stated that the situation would be monitored by social services moving forward. The online advertisement was swiftly removed from the platform shortly after police became involved.
