Regulatory Authorities Issue Recall for Nearly All Tesla Cybertrucks
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall affecting nearly all Tesla Cybertrucks currently on the roads. This latest recall, which marks the eighth since the vehicle's delivery commenced a little over a year ago, encompasses more than 46,000 units.
The primary concern outlined in the NHTSA's recall notice is the potential detachment of an exterior panel that runs along both sides of the windshield, posing a significant safety risk to other road users and heightening the likelihood of accidents. This component, known as the cant rail assembly, is situated between the windshield and the roof and is affixed to the truck's structure with an adhesive.
In response to the issue, Tesla will replace the problematic panel at no cost to the owners. Notifications to affected vehicle owners are expected to be dispatched by May 19, 2025.
The recall affects all Cybertruck models from the 2024 and 2025 production years, specifically those manufactured between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025. Reports indicate that Tesla first recognized the issue earlier in the year.
Furthermore, the recall follows a series of viral social media videos showing individuals removing the panels from Cybertrucks by hand, raising further concerns about the vehicle's safety features. The Cybertruck, which began deliveries in late 2023, has faced numerous recalls in the past 15 months due to various safety-related issues, including problems with electric inverters that could lead to power loss in the drive wheels, stuck acceleration pedals, and issues with windshield wipers and display screens.
This recall is the latest in a series of challenges faced by the electric vehicle manufacturer, particularly amid increasing scrutiny since the advent of the current administration, which has placed Elon Musk in a position to oversee a newly formed Department of Government Efficiency focused on budget cuts.
In addition to the recall, Tesla has recently become the target of violent incidents, including attacks on dealerships and charging stations. Law enforcement agencies are investigating several events, including the use of Molotov cocktails and vandalism directed at Tesla properties. A recent arrest in South Carolina involved an individual accused of setting fire to Tesla charging stations while possessing anti-government writings.
Despite these issues, Tesla has largely managed to remain unaffected by the recent recall announcement in terms of stock performance; however, the company's shares have seen a significant decline of 42% in 2025 due to growing competition in the electric vehicle market, particularly from manufacturers in China.
For those who own a Cybertruck and have questions regarding the recall, Tesla customer service can be reached at 1-877-798-3752, and the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline is available at 888-327-4236 or through their website at nhtsa.gov.
