WhatsApp Developing Central Hub for Shared Media on Web Version

Tue 27th May, 2025

WhatsApp is currently in the process of developing a central hub for all shared media within its web client, according to reports from WABeta-Info. This new feature aims to streamline the way users access images, videos, GIFs, documents, and links shared across different chats.

The upcoming media hub is designed to enhance the searchability of content within the web interface, allowing users to quickly locate shared media without the need to open each individual conversation. Additionally, this feature will simplify storage management by displaying the size of multimedia files, enabling users to easily identify and delete large files that consume significant storage space.

In the overview, users will also see context-related details for documents and links, including the name of the contact who shared the item and the date it was sent. Furthermore, the media hub will feature a multi-select button, allowing users to forward, delete, or download multiple files simultaneously.

WABeta-Info also indicated that a similar function is expected to be integrated into the mobile application. Currently, the app has a less functional hub that is somewhat hidden within the settings menu, accessible via WhatsApp Settings > 'Storage and Data' > 'Manage Storage'. This existing view provides insights into how much storage the app is using and highlights files larger than 5 MB.

While the exact timeline for the media hub's integration into the application remains unclear, it is anticipated that it will first appear in the beta version before being rolled out to the stable version. There is also speculation that the long-awaited iPad app may be released before this practical new feature.
