US Military Dismantles Houthi Oil Port in Yemen

Fri 18th Apr, 2025

The US military has recently announced the destruction of the Houthi-controlled oil terminal at Ras Isa in Yemen. This strategic move aims to disrupt the financial resources of the Iran-backed Houthi militia, which reportedly utilizes revenues from fuel sales to fund its military operations.

According to the US Central Command (Centcom), the focus of the operation was to diminish the economic power of the Houthi forces, who have been accused of exploiting their fellow citizens and inflicting significant suffering. The details surrounding the military engagement and the potential casualties remain undisclosed.

In response to the attack, Houthi officials reported that at least 20 individuals were killed and 50 more sustained injuries due to the US airstrike on the Ras Isa facility. They cautioned that the death toll may rise as more information becomes available. Additionally, the Houthis claimed that the US forces had conducted further strikes targeting crucial infrastructure near the port city of Hodeida, though these reports have not been independently verified.

The Houthis, who control the capital Sana'a and various regions across Yemen, have increasingly targeted vessels associated with Israel in the Red Sea since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict in October 2023, expressing solidarity with the Hamas movement.

This escalation in military activity highlights the ongoing conflict in Yemen, which has seen a significant humanitarian crisis exacerbated by years of war. International efforts to mediate a resolution continue amid the complex geopolitical dynamics involving regional powers.
