Severe Rainfall Alert in Berlin as World Stars Prepare for Outdoor Concerts

Mon 21st Jul, 2025

The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a warning for severe weather conditions affecting various regions of the country, particularly in the northeast and east. This is due to the approach of a low-pressure system named Isaac, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

Today, areas in the northeastern part of Germany, including Berlin, are at risk of experiencing intense downpours. According to the DWD, the rain is likely to begin in the early afternoon hours, starting from western Saxony and moving towards Brandenburg, Berlin, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern later in the day.

Experts predict that rainfall amounts could reach between 30 to 60 liters per square meter within a six-hour period. In some regions, especially along the Oder River and in Vorpommern, there is a potential for thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and hail.

As the weather forecast unfolds, two renowned artists, Robbie Williams and Anna Netrebko, are set to perform in Berlin this evening. Their outdoor concerts may coincide with the anticipated heavy rainfall, which could pose challenges for attendees. Meteorologists have cautioned that the conditions may lead to localized flooding, making travel difficult due to potential aquaplaning on roads.

Dr. Karsten Brandt, a climatologist, noted that the expected showers could result in significant water accumulation, particularly during the evening hours. Rainfall is expected to persist until late in the night, with the heaviest precipitation likely occurring between 5 PM and 8 PM.

Looking ahead, the DWD emphasizes that the weather will remain unstable, with a mix of warm and rainy days continuing throughout the week. The forecast suggests that the high summer temperatures experienced recently will give way to more typical summer weather, characterized by fluctuating conditions and temperatures hovering around 23 to 25 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists have indicated that a return to prolonged periods of hot summer weather is not expected in the near future.

In summary, residents and visitors in Berlin should prepare for severe weather conditions today, particularly during the evening concert events. The DWD strongly advises caution and preparedness for potential flooding and hazardous travel conditions.
