Samsung Unveils the Slimmest Galaxy Smartphone Yet: The S25 Edge

Tue 13th May, 2025

Samsung has introduced the Galaxy S25 Edge, marking a significant addition to its premium smartphone lineup. This device, known for its impressive slimness, stands at just 5.8 millimeters in thickness, excluding the camera bump, making it thinner and lighter than its predecessors.

Although it does not set a record for the thinnest smartphone--previous models like the Motorola Moto Z from 2016 and the Oppo Find N5 are even slimmer--the Galaxy S25 Edge impresses with its elegant design and light weight of only 162 grams. This is notably lighter than other models in the same series, such as the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Google Pixel 9 Pro, which weigh approximately 60 grams more.

From a technical perspective, the Galaxy S25 Edge shares many components with its siblings. It is powered by a slightly overclocked Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, coupled with 12 GB of RAM. Users can choose between 256 GB or 512 GB of internal storage, though there is no option for expansion. The device features a vibrant 6.7-inch OLED display that can achieve a resolution of up to 3120 x 1440 pixels, although it is set to a more battery-efficient resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels by default. The phone runs on Android 15, equipped with the latest One UI 7, which includes various artificial intelligence and additional functionalities.

In terms of camera capabilities, the S25 Edge also makes concessions for its sleek design. While it retains the high-resolution 200-megapixel main camera from the S25 Ultra, it only includes a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, omitting a telephoto lens entirely. This means that for zoomed shots, users will have to rely on cropping from the main camera's high-resolution images. A 12-megapixel front-facing camera completes the photographic suite.

Another consequence of the phone's slender profile is a smaller battery capacity. The S25 Edge is equipped with a 3900 mAh battery, significantly less than the 5000 mAh battery found in the S25 Ultra. Due to the combination of the powerful processor and high-resolution display, users should not expect exceptionally long battery life. Charging capabilities include wired charging at 25 watts and wireless charging at a maximum of 15 watts. The device also supports the Qi2 standard, although users will need a compatible case for magnetic docking.

Initial handling of the Galaxy S25 Edge suggests that while bending the phone is not feasible, it does exhibit some flex under lateral pressure, more so than the sturdier S25 Ultra. Its durability in everyday use remains to be evaluated through comprehensive testing.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is priced at EUR1249 at launch, offering 512 GB of internal storage until May 29. After this promotional period, the 512 GB variant will retail for EUR1369. In comparison, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is currently available for around EUR950 with 256 GB of storage, while the Galaxy S25+ can be purchased for approximately EUR800.
