Thu 26th Jun, 2025

A 21-year-old man affiliated with the Remmo clan has been sentenced to ten months in prison, suspended on probation, after violently attacking a police officer following a traffic incident that involved his injured sister. The incident occurred when the officer, a 24-year-old female, was driving a police vehicle responding to the scene of the accident.

The attack took place when the young man, instead of checking on his sister who was lying injured on the ground, rushed towards the police car. He forcefully opened the door and struck the officer multiple times, inflicting injuries to her head and face. During the trial held at the Tiergarten District Court, he described the moment as being akin to being in a 'tunnel', indicating the emotional turmoil that overtook him during the incident.

As a result of the attack, the young man was found guilty of assaulting law enforcement officers, bodily harm, and resisting arrest. In addition to the suspended sentence, he has been ordered to pay EUR4,000 in damages to the injured officer, who sustained bruises and psychological trauma from the encounter. Despite her ordeal, the officer expressed her determination to continue her career in law enforcement out of conviction.

According to testimony presented during the trial, the police vehicle was equipped with emergency lights and sirens as it approached the accident scene. The officer reported that she had attempted to brake to avoid hitting the 15-year-old girl but was unable to prevent the collision, resulting in the girl being thrown into the air. Witnesses claimed that the young man became enraged upon witnessing his sister's injuries and reacted violently.

After the initial attack, several police colleagues intervened, managing to pull the assailant away from the officer. However, the man continued to exhibit aggressive behavior, leading one officer to use pepper spray to subdue him. In court, the defendant expressed remorse for his actions, claiming that he had never intended to harm anyone and that he was not a violent person by nature.

The young man, the tenth of twelve children in his family, had a troubled educational background, having dropped out of school after the fourth grade. He currently lives with a brother and is unemployed, receiving social benefits. Prior to this incident, he had faced legal issues related to theft but had not previously been convicted of violent crimes.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding crime associated with the Remmo clan, a group often linked to organized crime in Berlin. The clan has been involved in various high-profile criminal cases, including the theft of valuable items from museums and banks. In a separate legal matter, a villa previously owned by the clan was seized by the Berlin public prosecutor in 2018, raising questions about the extent of their illicit activities.

In light of the court's decision, the young man is also required to complete 100 hours of community service and participate in a competency training program. He will be under the supervision of a probation officer for a duration of two years. The prosecution had initially sought an 18-month suspended sentence, while the defense argued for community service instead.
