Protests Erupt as Activists Attempt to Block Springer Printing Press in Berlin

Mon 2nd Jun, 2025

In a significant escalation of their activities, a group of activists known as the Neue Generation attempted to block the Axel Springer printing facility located in Berlin-Spandau late on Sunday night. This incident resulted in the arrest of 30 individuals by local police, according to reports.

The activists aimed to obstruct the delivery of various publications from the Springer Group, including well-known titles such as 'BILD' and 'BZ'. Reports indicate that they used a delivery van to aid in their efforts to block the facility's entrances.

In response, the Berlin police deployed a substantial force to the scene to prevent the blockade. Images from the event reveal a significant police presence, with officers positioned against the protesting group.

The activists accused law enforcement of using excessive force during the operation, claiming that they were subject to rough treatment and physical removal from the site.

This action marks a notable shift in the focus of the Neue Generation, which has rebranded from the previous organization, Letzte Generation. Rather than concentrating solely on climate issues, their recent efforts have shifted towards opposing what they characterize as fascist elements within the media landscape.

In a separate action on the same day, the group conducted a glue protest at the German Historical Museum, further emphasizing their agenda against what they perceive as fascism.

The activists justify their actions by claiming that the Springer Group promotes policies that favor right-wing and wealthy interests under the guise of journalism. They argue that 'BILD' serves as a tool for autocrats and fascists, although they have not specifically identified who they consider to be these autocrats and fascists.

This protest is part of a broader trend among various splinter groups from the Letzte Generation, including another faction called the 'Widerstands-Kollektiv', which has also ramped up its activities in Berlin in recent days.
