A special unit of the federal police has conducted searches at the residences of two young men in Berlin in connection with allegations of armed extortion. The individuals, aged 18 and 19, are suspected of threatening transportation inspectors with firearms while traveling on a train without a ticket.

The incident occurred several weeks ago at the Hermannstraße station when the inspectors attempted to verify the identities of the two men. In response, the suspects reportedly brandished handguns and issued threats, subsequently fleeing the scene. The police were able to identify the suspects through surveillance footage from the station.

According to a spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office, both suspects are known to law enforcement and have prior interactions with the justice system. On the morning of the raids, conducted by the elite GSG 9 unit, authorities were unable to locate the suspects at their registered addresses. One residence is located near Checkpoint Charlie in Mitte, while the other is situated in Neukölln, leading to questions about whether the suspects still reside there.

The investigation is ongoing as police continue to track the movements of the two men and gather further evidence related to the case. The use of firearms in this instance has raised concerns regarding safety in public transportation settings, prompting discussions on potential measures to enhance security for transport staff and passengers alike.
