PocketBook has introduced its InkPoster line of E-Ink digital picture frames to the German market, expanding the range of innovative display technologies available to consumers. The InkPoster series was first showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), drawing attention for its unique use of E-Ink displays instead of traditional LCD or OLED panels commonly found in digital frames.
The InkPoster is available in three distinct sizes, offering a variety of choices for users seeking energy-efficient, wireless digital art displays. Prices start at 700 euros and extend up to 2,700 euros for the largest and most sophisticated variant. The entry-level model, known as the InkPoster Afresco, features a 13.3-inch display with a resolution of 1600 × 1200 pixels. A mid-range version offers a significantly larger 31.5-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels, priced at 2,000 euros. The top-tier option, the Tela variant, boasts a 28.5-inch screen with a sharper 3060 × 2160 pixel resolution and incorporates an advanced IGZO-backplane developed in collaboration with Sharp, which allows for slightly faster image refresh rates. This premium model is available for 2,700 euros.
Unlike conventional digital picture frames, PocketBook's InkPoster leverages E-Ink technology, specifically using the Spectra 6 platform. This technology integrates white, red, yellow, and blue microcapsules within the display cells. When an image is updated, electrical fields rearrange these colored microcapsules to produce the intended hues, resulting in more vibrant and lifelike colors compared to standard E-Reader screens. The trade-off for this enhanced coloration is a longer image update process, which takes approximately 30 seconds. However, this duration is considered acceptable for a wall-mounted digital poster where frequent changes are unnecessary.
One of the key benefits of E-Ink technology is its energy efficiency. The displays consume power only when the image is changed, and otherwise require no electricity to maintain a static image. This attribute enables the InkPoster frames to operate wirelessly, powered by an internal battery that can last up to a year with daily image changes. The device is recharged via a discreetly integrated USB-C port located behind a panel on the frame.
Users can update the content displayed on their InkPoster frames through a dedicated PocketBook app, which also provides access to a curated selection of artworks. Additionally, users have the option to upload and showcase their own photos and images, allowing for personalization and flexibility in home or office decor.
The adoption of IGZO-backplane technology in the Tela model further sets it apart, contributing to a quicker image refresh and higher image fidelity. All models are designed for easy wall mounting and are intended to serve as both functional and decorative elements in a variety of living or professional spaces.
With the introduction of the InkPoster series, PocketBook is positioning itself at the forefront of the digital art display market, offering an alternative to traditional digital frames. The combination of vibrant E-Ink color technology, long battery life, and wireless operation makes these frames an appealing choice for users interested in sustainable and innovative display solutions.
