A military helicopter has reportedly crashed into the Mulde River close to Grimma, Saxony, during a routine training flight. Authorities confirmed that parts of the aircraft were discovered by kayakers who alerted the police earlier today. As of now, the pilot remains unaccounted for.

According to a spokesperson from the Leipzig District Fire Brigade, pieces of the helicopter were located in the river, with fuel leaking into the water. The exact number of personnel aboard the aircraft at the time of the incident is still unknown, as investigations are ongoing. A police representative noted that these details are part of the current inquiries.

The helicopter, confirmed to be a Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) aircraft, reportedly disappeared from radar between 10:00 and 10:30 AM. Eyewitnesses, including local paddlers, discovered debris around noon and promptly notified the authorities.

Emergency services, including the federal, state, and water police, are currently engaged in the recovery operation. Reports indicate that a loud noise, reminiscent of a vehicle collision, was heard around noon by nearby residents. Subsequently, military personnel began cordoning off the area around 1:00 PM, establishing a secure perimeter. A flight restriction zone has also been enacted by the Federal Aviation Office as a precautionary measure.

Fire department officials reported that significant amounts of fuel are leaking from the wreckage, which is situated in the middle of the river and poses accessibility challenges for rescue teams. Approximately 50 emergency responders are on-site, focusing on containing the fuel spill before commencing recovery efforts.

The situation remains fluid, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The military and local authorities are working diligently to locate the missing pilot and secure the crash site.
