Midjourney Unveils New V7 Model for Image Generation

Mon 7th Apr, 2025

Midjourney has announced the upcoming launch of its latest image generation model, V7, which will initially be available in an alpha version to a select group of users. The company has not yet provided a timeline for when a broader release will occur.

The V7 model introduces a Draft Mode that significantly reduces image generation times and costs. According to the developers, images can be created up to ten times faster than in the standard mode; however, users must explicitly select the Draft Mode to benefit from this acceleration, as using the regular mode will result in longer processing times.

This new mode is particularly suited for rapid concept creation and editing, enabling users to build on initial drafts to produce higher-quality images through an enhancement option. Additionally, the prompt interface has been optimized to function in a conversational format, allowing for quicker iterations. Voice commands can also be utilized to operate this mode.

In addition to Draft Mode, V7 offers a Turbo Mode, which provides quick processing at a cost that is double that of tasks completed using the previous V6 model. Conversely, a Relax Mode is available for users seeking slower processing times.

One of the standout features of V7 is its personalization capability, which tailors the image generator's outputs to the individual preferences of users. During a five-minute selection period, users can choose images they like, and this information is saved to refine the generator's style to match their tastes. However, users can opt to disable this personalization at any time.

Overall, Midjourney V7 promises improvements in consistency, accuracy, detail, and responsiveness to user prompts. However, for image editing tasks, the V6 model remains in use. Midjourney has cautioned that V7 is a completely new model that may come with its own set of bugs and quirks. As a result, users may find that commonly used prompts yield different results, necessitating adjustments in their usage.
