A serious traffic incident occurred on the A2 highway near Ziesar in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district, leaving a 64-year-old man gravely injured. The accident unfolded during the night when a tire blew out on a vehicle, initiating a chain reaction of collisions.
According to police reports, the initial tire blowout caused the affected car to collide with a truck driving to its right. The 32-year-old truck driver reacted quickly by braking and maneuvering onto the emergency lane. However, the 64-year-old driver attempted to avoid the accident but ended up crashing into the rear of the truck.
The severity of the collision necessitated the intervention of a rescue helicopter, which transported the injured man to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, both the truck driver and the driver of the initially affected vehicle escaped without injuries. The identity and age of the second driver remain undisclosed as police continue their investigation.
Following the accident, the A2 highway was closed in the direction of Berlin, causing significant traffic disruptions. After a few hours, authorities managed to reopen the middle and left lanes, allowing traffic to resume partially.
