Water Erupts 30 Meters High in Gloucester: Major Pipe Burst

Thu 15th May, 2025

In Matson, a suburb of Gloucester, England, a significant pipe burst occurred, sending torrents of water shooting over 30 meters into the air. The incident swiftly transformed nearby properties into muddy landscapes, leaving local residents without water.

The rupture involved a primary water main managed by the local utility provider, Severn Trent. While the exact cause of the failure remains under investigation, the aftermath has been considerable, with no injuries reported.

Aerial images captured the extent of the water's reach, demonstrating the sheer force of the eruption. Debris, including concrete, dirt, and rubble, was dislodged from the ground and propelled into the air. Reports indicate that thick concrete slabs were violently displaced, causing structural damage to at least one apartment building, where windows and roof tiles were shattered.

The Sneedhams Road, adjacent to the site of the incident, was cordoned off by emergency services as thousands of liters of water inundated the roadway. Drone footage showcased the dramatic power of the leak, likening the water's trajectory to that of an enormous garden sprinkler.

By early afternoon, the utility company announced that technicians had arrived on-site to restore service to affected households. Just before 2 PM, the main water supply was successfully shut off, eliciting applause from residents as the fountain of water was finally quelled.
