Police Seize Over 500 Grams of Cannabis and Multiple Weapons in Kempten Apartment Raid

Law enforcement officials in Kempten have confiscated a substantial quantity of cannabis, several firearms, and ammunition during a recent search of a local apartment. The operation targeted the residence of a 31-year-old man, following an earlier offense related to narcotics.

During the search, authorities discovered approximately 580 grams of cannabis, ten cannabis plants, as well as a collection of weapons and related components. The items recovered included nine pistols, nine long guns or air rifles, various weapon parts, and associated ammunition. The seized amount of cannabis far exceeded the legal personal possession limit of 50 grams, as set by current German regulations.

The police reported that while the majority of the weapons found in the apartment did not require a license, they were not stored according to prescribed legal standards. This constitutes an administrative offense under German law. In addition, officers located a prohibited targeting device, prompting further legal action under the Weapons Act.

The investigation, overseen by the Kempten Public Prosecutor's Office, is examining multiple potential violations. The suspect faces allegations under both the Narcotic Drugs Act and the recently introduced Cannabis Consumption Act, which stipulates restrictions on the quantity and storage of cannabis for personal use. The improper storage of firearms and the possession of an illegal sighting device have also resulted in charges relating to weapons legislation.

According to police, the search was authorized by the Kempten District Court after information from a prior narcotics-related offense led investigators to seek a warrant. Officers from the Central Operations Services in Kempten supported the search, ensuring all items were safely catalogued and removed from the property.

The confiscated cannabis and weapons are now being held as evidence. Authorities stress that the investigation remains ongoing, and further legal proceedings are expected as forensic analyses and interviews continue. The case highlights the importance of adhering to both narcotics and firearms laws, particularly regarding the safe and legal storage of potentially dangerous items.
