Judge Confirms: Double Murderer Killed Another Woman

Wed 28th May, 2025

Hannover - A man already serving time for murder has been implicated in another homicide. Ronald C. (31), who was convicted in 2018 for the brutal killing of a schoolgirl, has now been sentenced to a total of 15 years in prison for two counts of manslaughter, along with subsequent preventive detention. Authorities indicate that he may never be released.

The motives behind both crimes remain unclear. Judge Martin Grote stated during the sentencing at the Hannover District Court that the question of 'why' remains unanswered. Despite the defendant's claims of innocence, the evidence presented has led the court to conclude that Ronald C. is indeed a double murderer from Barsinghausen, Niedersachsen. The similarities between the two cases are striking.

In June 2018, C. stalked 16-year-old Anna-Lena T., ultimately attacking her with a heavy branch weighing 9.5 kilograms. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison for this crime. However, investigators had long suspected that C. had also murdered 55-year-old Veronika B. just two months prior. Both crime scenes were situated merely 600 meters apart, and both victims were found partially undressed, with their shoes placed beside their bodies. The violence inflicted upon both women was described by the judge as 'excessive and unrestrained.'

Veronika B.'s image appeared on a police wanted poster from 2018, and while the evidence in the case of the schoolgirl was overwhelming, the investigation into Veronika B.'s death had faced challenges. Initially, the forensic team found only smeared DNA traces on her jacket and trolley. It wasn't until seven years later, with advancements in forensic technology, that DNA samples could be definitively linked to Ronald C.

Defense attorneys argue that the DNA evidence is insufficient, suggesting that it could have been transferred through casual contact, such as at a supermarket checkout. They have called for an acquittal and plan to appeal the ruling, asserting that the DNA evidence does not meet their burden of proof.

If the appeals process upholds the current verdict, Ronald C. will remain incarcerated even after completing his 15-year sentence, as the prosecution has requested preventive detention to protect the public. The rationale provided emphasizes the need to safeguard society from this individual, who, according to the court, harbors a significant amount of rage.
