The visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog to Berlin is set to take place this Sunday, marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Germany and Israel. As a result, significant traffic restrictions will be enforced in various areas of the city.

Authorities have announced that heightened security measures will be in effect, particularly during the weekend. The police have specified that the regions around Hardenbergstraße, Budapester Straße, Kantstraße, and Joachimsthaler Straße will experience restrictions starting from 8 PM on May 11 until 9 AM on May 13. Additionally, the government district will be affected on May 12 from 12 PM to 6 PM, and Schloss Bellevue will be closed to traffic from 7 AM to midnight on the same day.

Moreover, the Bundesfamilienministerium will also be impacted from 11 AM to 4 PM, while the memorial at Gleis 17 in Grunewald will see restrictions from 5 PM to 5 PM the same day. The police have advised that navigation on the Spree River near Schloss Bellevue and the Federal Chancellery will be prohibited throughout the visit. Furthermore, vehicles including bicycles, motorized two-wheelers, and all types of electric vehicles will not be permitted to park in designated zones during the specified times.

Residents and professionals who need access to the restricted areas are urged to carry personal identification or work badges to facilitate entry.

On Monday, President Herzog will be received by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Schloss Bellevue. Their agenda includes engagements with youth from both Israel and Germany, along with a commemoration event at the Gleis 17 memorial. Following these events, President Steinmeier will accompany President Herzog on a visit to Israel on Tuesday.
