Hertha BSC Appoints New Managing Director Amid Ongoing Changes

Mon 4th Aug, 2025

Hertha BSC has reportedly identified a new managing director following an extensive search marked by multiple rejections from high-profile candidates. According to various sources, including local media, Peter Görlich, a relatively unknown figure from Hoffenheim, is set to succeed Tom Herrich, who announced his departure in the spring.

While the club has not yet issued an official statement regarding this appointment, it is anticipated that Görlich will be introduced to the public later this week. His first official engagement is expected to align with the upcoming match against Karlsruher SC.

Following Herrich's abrupt exit, the club had been linked with several prominent names in football management, including former HSV sports director Jonas Boldt, Ralf Rangnick, and Oliver Kahn, the ex-boss of Bayern Munich. However, all these candidates declined the opportunity to join the capital club.

Görlich's appointment marks a shift in leadership as he will work alongside Ralf Huschen, who has been managing operations solo since Herrich's departure. Görlich's involvement may also extend to the current transfer window as the club seeks to strengthen its squad, particularly in the forward position. Reports indicate that potential signing Mergim Berisha has turned down the opportunity to join Hertha.

Despite being a candidate recommended by the recruitment agency hired by Hertha, Görlich's background raises questions regarding his depth of experience in sports management. Before his tenure at Hoffenheim, where he served as the managing director for sports, innovation, and internationalization from 2015 to 2021, he led various companies in the healthcare sector. Most recently, he took the role of managing director at SHR University Heidelberg just last month. It remains unclear whether he will relinquish this position or juggle both roles.

Moreover, another critical position within the club remains unfilled. Hertha continues its search for a new head of the youth academy following Andreas Neuendorf's departure, with Rainer Widmayer reportedly in line for the role.
