A serious incident occurred in the Swiss canton of Valais on Saturday afternoon when a helicopter crashed in the Oberaletsch glacier region, located north of the municipality of Naterns. Reports indicate that at least one person has died as a result of the crash, with unconfirmed reports suggesting that three to four individuals were on board.

The crash site is situated at an altitude of 2,500 meters, nestled between the Grosses Fusshorn peak and the glacier. Emergency responders, including eight firefighters, have arrived on the scene, according to local sources.

Eyewitness accounts describe a chaotic scene, with one individual capturing video footage of the downed helicopter, which was seen emitting smoke. In the footage, a person can be seen moving away from the wreckage before returning, highlighting the confusion in the aftermath of the crash. Initial reports from local media suggest that one occupant of the helicopter has died, while another has sustained serious injuries.

Eyewitnesses noted that the helicopter appeared to be low flying around 12:15 PM, likely preparing to land, when it suddenly tilted to the side, leading to the crash.

The Valais cantonal police have confirmed the occurrence of the accident but have not yet provided detailed information regarding casualties or injuries. A spokesperson mentioned that the helicopter might have been transporting materials for a mountain hut or engaged in aerial tours, which are common in this picturesque alpine region.

Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the crash and to confirm the identities of those involved. As rescue efforts continue, the focus remains on providing assistance to any survivors and uncovering the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
