A 37-year-old supporter of Hannover 96 has been implicated in a theft incident involving fans of Energie Cottbus during their travel to a DFB-Pokal match on Saturday. Thousands of fans were en route to the first round of the prestigious tournament, where third-division club Energie Cottbus was set to face off against the second-division favorites, Hannover 96, at the LEAG Energie Stadion.

Many fans traveled on the Regional Express RE2, where a disruptive Hannover supporter boarded at the Lübben station. The atmosphere in the train quickly soured when the man, appearing agitated, confronted Cottbus fans wearing their team's red-and-white jerseys and accessories.

Between Lübben and Lübbenau, at approximately 2:30 PM, the individual reportedly threatened several Cottbus supporters and forcibly seized two jerseys and a scarf before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in connection with this incident.

Thanks to eyewitness accounts, federal police were able to apprehend and identify the suspect shortly after the incident. However, the stolen items were not recovered as the man likely discarded them. Following his arrest, he was issued a stadium ban and allowed to return home.

The investigation into the alleged robbery is being conducted by both the federal police and local authorities in Brandenburg. The suspect has a prior criminal record and is already known to law enforcement. Authorities have secured video footage from the train, which will be analyzed as part of the investigation.

Despite the unfortunate altercation, the day concluded positively for Cottbus fans, as their team triumphed over Hannover 96 with a score of 1-0, securing a place in the second round of the DFB-Pokal.
