Traffic Incident in Friedland: Vehicle Catches Fire After Collision with Wildlife

In a significant traffic incident on the B197 near Friedland, a car caught fire following an accident involving a young driver and two deer on August 16, 2025. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene after receiving a report at approximately 5:20 AM.

Upon arrival, responders were met with a dense plume of black smoke rising from the site of the accident. The driver, a 19-year-old male, was found with a head injury but was conscious and able to communicate. He reported that he was driving home when two deer unexpectedly crossed his path. In an attempt to avoid a collision, he swerved off the roadway, struck a guardrail, and subsequently overturned after travelling about 200 meters.

The vehicle ultimately came to rest on its side and, fortunately, the driver managed to extricate himself before the car was engulfed in flames. Emergency personnel transported him to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries.

The local volunteer fire department, consisting of 19 firefighters, arrived quickly to extinguish the fire and secure the area. The B197 remained closed for approximately 90 minutes to facilitate the clearing of the accident site and the recovery of the vehicle.

Authorities have estimated the financial damages resulting from the incident to be around EUR10,350. This incident underscores the potential dangers of wildlife encounters on roadways, highlighting the need for drivers to remain vigilant, particularly in rural areas.
