End of Support for Windows 10 and 11 Versions Approaches

Fri 15th Aug, 2025

Microsoft has issued a reminder that support for specific versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11 will be ending soon. System administrators are urged to initiate updates to avoid security vulnerabilities.

The impending end of support for Windows 10 is widely recognized, but Microsoft has now reiterated that this deadline is only 60 days away. Additionally, support for certain Windows 11 versions will also conclude shortly thereafter.

According to an announcement in the Windows Release Health notes, Windows 10 version 22H2, which includes Home, Pro, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions, will reach its end of life on October 14, 2025. This also applies to Windows 10 2015 LTSB and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB 2015. For the first time, personal users can participate in the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, allowing them to prolong support by an additional 12 months. However, Microsoft strongly recommends that affected users migrate to Windows 11.

Furthermore, certain editions of Windows 11 are also nearing their support termination. Specifically, Windows 11 version 22H2 will see its support end in 60 days, affecting Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise versions. It is important to note that the Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 had already reached their end of support a year ago.

The Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 receive only 24 months of support, as indicated in Microsoft's product lifecycle FAQ. Consequently, Microsoft has issued a reminder 90 days prior to the end of support for Windows 11 version 23H2 for personal users. The last security update for this version is scheduled for the November Patch Day.

After the end of support in October and November, the specified Windows versions will no longer receive functional or security updates, leaving them exposed to new threats and vulnerabilities. Microsoft encourages users to upgrade to Windows 11 version 24H2, which is currently the latest available version. Meanwhile, Windows 11 version 25H2 is in testing within the Insider program, and a release is anticipated this fall, although a specific timeline has yet to be disclosed.
