Emergency Landing: Flight from Corfu to Düsseldorf Diverted Due to Engine Issue

Sun 17th Aug, 2025

A passenger flight traveling from the Greek island of Corfu to Düsseldorf faced a serious situation shortly after takeoff. The Condor flight DE 3665, carrying 273 passengers and eight crew members, was forced to divert to Brindisi, Italy, due to an alarming engine issue.

Shortly after departure, a cockpit alert indicated a malfunction related to the engine's airflow. Despite the warning, the pilot communicated with air traffic control, suggesting the aircraft could continue its journey. However, as the plane crossed the Adriatic Sea, witnesses reported hearing a loud bang accompanied by visible flames.

Condor Airlines confirmed that although flames were observed, there was no actual engine fire. The airline clarified that the situation indicated a disturbance that warranted the diversion. Following the unexpected landing in Brindisi, the aircraft underwent a technical inspection to determine the cause of the engine irregularity.

The plane landed safely around 20:15 local time, albeit significantly deviating from its intended route. Passengers were informed about the extended travel duration and the need for an overnight stay in Brindisi. Condor dispatched a replacement aircraft to transport the passengers to Düsseldorf the following morning.

Due to limited hotel accommodations in Brindisi, several passengers remained at the airport overnight, where blankets and meal vouchers were provided. Condor has expressed apologies for the inconvenience experienced by travelers and has offered reimbursement for those who sought alternative lodging.

The airline is currently investigating the technical issue that led to the alarm, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
