Ducati Unveils Panigale V4 R: The Fastest Street-Legal Motorcycle in Its History

Thu 13th Nov, 2025

The Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati has introduced its latest high-performance model, the Panigale V4 R, which stands as the brand's fastest street-legal production motorcycle to date. Designed as a homologation model for the Superbike World Championship, the Panigale V4 R brings advanced race technology to the road, with a maximum speed capability of up to 330 km/h when equipped with racing components.

The Panigale V4 R distinguishes itself from the standard Panigale V4 and V4 S variants primarily through its engine configuration. The 998 cc V4 engine, built to comply with World Superbike regulations, produces 218 horsepower in its street-legal form. When fitted with a dedicated racing exhaust system and specialized performance oil, the engine output rises to an impressive 239 horsepower. This configuration enables the motorcycle to reach a top speed that surpasses all previous Ducati production models.

In terms of aerodynamics, the Panigale V4 R introduces 'Corner Sidepods' to a production motorcycle for the first time, a technology derived from Ducati's MotoGP experience. These low-mounted spoilers become effective when leaning into corners, generating downforce that allows for tighter and more stable cornering trajectories. The winglets have also been redesigned to increase aerodynamic downforce by up to 25 percent, helping to maintain front wheel stability at high speeds.

The motorcycle is equipped with a new front air intake which, utilizing the Ram-Air effect, further enhances maximum engine performance. The revised chassis features a 'Hollow Symmetrical' double-sided swingarm, replacing the previous single-sided version. This structural update, combined with a new frame offering 40 percent less lateral stiffness, aims to improve traction and precision during aggressive cornering.

Suspension components on the Panigale V4 R are sourced from Öhlins, including a fully adjustable NPX25/30 front fork and a TTX36 rear shock absorber. A newly introduced Öhlins SD20 steering damper offers improved damping and a wider adjustment range. The suspension geometry allows for multiple adjustments to suit various riding preferences, including four settings for the swingarm pivot and customizable seat height.

Braking performance is delivered by Brembo's latest Hypure calipers paired with 330 mm discs, ensuring powerful and consistent stopping capability. The lightweight forged aluminum wheels are fitted with premium Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V4 tires, while the overall dry weight of the motorcycle is reduced to just 186.5 kilograms, contributing to its exceptional handling characteristics.

Advanced electronic systems further enhance safety and performance. The Panigale V4 R features an updated cornering ABS system with Race Brake Control, allowing more aggressive use of the rear brake and later braking into corners. Ducati's Vehicle Observer technology manages engine braking for optimal stability. The gearbox is configured in a racing layout, with neutral positioned below first gear, minimizing the risk of accidental shifts and improving track usability.

As with previous R-series models, production numbers are limited to meet homologation requirements, making the Panigale V4 R a sought-after model for collectors and racing enthusiasts alike. The motorcycle is offered at a premium price point, reflecting both its advanced engineering and exclusivity.

In addition to the base motorcycle, Ducati provides an extensive range of optional accessories, including carbon fiber components, upgraded brakes, lightweight wheels, and a full racing exhaust system. These options allow customers to further tailor the Panigale V4 R for track or road use, although the high-performance upgrades come at a significant additional cost.

With the Panigale V4 R, Ducati continues its tradition of producing cutting-edge machines for both the road and the racetrack, solidifying its position at the forefront of superbike innovation.
