Dua Lipa Granted Kosovo Citizenship, Celebrating Cultural Heritage

Sun 3rd Aug, 2025

Pop singer Dua Lipa has officially received citizenship from Kosovo, further enriching her multicultural identity. Born in London to Kosovo-Albanian parents in 1995, Lipa's latest nationality complements her existing British and Albanian citizenships, creating a trifecta of national affiliations.

During a recent ceremony, Kosovo's President Vjosa Osmani presented Lipa with her citizenship, praising her as one of the most significant cultural figures in the country's history. In her statement, Lipa expressed that this recognition fulfills a long-standing connection to her roots, saying it means a lot to both her and her family.

Lipa's connection to her heritage is not new; in 2022, she became a citizen of Albania, embracing her Albanian roots. This latest honor from Kosovo reflects her commitment to celebrating her ancestry and supporting cultural initiatives in the region.

On the same day she received her citizenship, Lipa performed at the Sunny Hill Festival in Pristina, which she co-founded. The event showcased her dedication to promoting music and culture in Kosovo and included a special performance with her father, during which they sang a song in Albanian.

The pop star is known for her chart-topping hits and has received numerous accolades, including multiple Grammy Awards and Brit Awards, solidifying her position as a prominent figure in the music industry. Lipa continues to use her platform to highlight her cultural heritage and support the arts in Kosovo.
