Danish Prime Minister Reiterates Sovereignty Over Greenland Amid US Interests

Denmark's Prime Minister has firmly asserted that Greenland will not be ceded to the United States, rejecting prior suggestions from former President Trump regarding the island's status. During a recent visit to Greenland, she emphasized the importance of maintaining the established global order, which has been developed over generations across the Atlantic.

In a press conference held in the Arctic territory, the Prime Minister addressed ongoing discussions about Greenland's future, stating that the notion of annexing another country for security purposes is unacceptable. Greenland is officially recognized as part of Denmark, yet it enjoys a degree of autonomy, particularly concerning its internal matters, while Denmark oversees foreign affairs and defense.

The former US administration expressed interest in Greenland, citing its strategic location and vast natural resources as reasons for wanting control over the territory. This interest was framed within the context of countering threats posed by nations such as Russia and China in the Arctic region.

The incoming Prime Minister of Greenland stressed the necessity for cooperation between Denmark and Greenland amidst external pressures. The Prime Minister of Denmark also highlighted the country's commitment to security in the Arctic, announcing enhancements to military capabilities, including new Arctic vessels, long-range drones, and improved satellite systems.

She extended an invitation to the United States to collaborate in strengthening security measures in the Arctic, emphasizing the existing NATO alliance between the two nations. This visit follows a controversial trip by the US Vice President, who had previously criticized Denmark's efforts in safeguarding Greenland, suggesting that American involvement would be more effective.

The Danish Prime Minister responded to these remarks, asserting that they did not accurately reflect Denmark's commitment to the safety of Greenland.
