Mon 14th Jul, 2025

The long-awaited completion of the Karl-Marx-Straße project in Berlin-Neukölln marks the end of a significant construction phase that began in 2010. This vital roadway, which serves as a crucial transportation artery for the district, has undergone extensive renovations over the past 15 years, including significant infrastructure improvements.

As part of the renovation efforts, the U7 subway tunnel beneath Karl-Marx-Straße was thoroughly restored, and the road itself was reconstructed to enhance safety and accessibility. The upgrades include the installation of wider sidewalks and dedicated bike lanes, aimed at promoting sustainable transportation options and improving the overall urban landscape.

According to district authorities, the construction site has officially been cleared, allowing for full traffic flow in both directions. The installation of new traffic lights near Rathaus Neukölln has facilitated this reopening, providing better management of the increased vehicular and pedestrian activity.

While the primary construction activities have concluded, officials indicated that minor finishing touches and additional work are expected to be completed in the coming weeks. A celebratory event is scheduled for September 26, when the community will officially welcome the new and improved roadway.

Looking ahead, the ongoing development of the area is set to continue. Starting in 2027, plans are in place for further renovations along the stretch between Weichselstraße and Hermannplatz, which will involve additional tunnel repairs and road upgrades conducted by the BVG (Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe).

In summary, the completion of Karl-Marx-Straße stands as a testament to long-term urban development efforts in Berlin, aiming to enhance transportation infrastructure and improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
