Bundesliga goes goal crazy as Bayern's perfect start continues

Mon 17th Sep, 2012

Bundesliga record signing Javi Martinez again had to make do with a place on the bench as Bayern Munich kept their grip on top spot with a 3-1 win against 1. FSV Mainz 05. Mario Mandzukic scored the game's first goal after 90 seconds before Bastian Schweinsteiger headed home a second just 10 minutes later to give the Bavarians  a comfortable half time lead. Adam Szalai set up a nervy finish with a penalty on the hour mark but in all truth the result rarely looked in doubt for Bayern.

An injury time goal from Toni Kroos wrapped up the victory for a Reds side that have now scored 11 goals in three games. The result came despite the home side missing arguably some of their better known players, with the likes of  Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery watching from the sidelines.

It was a good day at the office too for Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund who themselves notched three goals at home to Bayer Leverkusen, Mats Hummels scoring on the half hour mark before Polish duo Jakob Blaszczykowski and Robert Lewandowski sealed a comfortable victory with goals in the 39th and 78th minute respectively.1.FC Nürnberg came out on top of a five goal thriller at Borussia Mönchengladbach with Japanese international Hiroshi Kiyotake running the show with two assists and a goal. Timm Klose and Timmy Simmons both scored headers in the first half to give the away side an impressive 2-0 lead before under-pressure purchase Luuk De Jong rifled home to score his long-awaited first league goal for the club and pull it back to 2-1 just before the break.

Determined not to fall to their first home defeat of the season Mönchengladbach came out fighting in the second half and scored a deserved leveller through Swiss signing Granit Xhaka, another player scoring his first goal for the Foals.

The Franconians were not to be denied however as man of the match Kiyotake navigated two challenges to score with a placed effort on 55 minutes. Again Mönchengladbach responded well and almost snatched a draw as De Jong's acrobatic effort crashed against the post; but in the end stumbled to only their second home defeat in 22 games.

At Hannover Szabolcs Huszti continued his dream start to the season with another majestic display against Werder Bremen, two goals and an assist sealing three points that would lift 96 to third in the table.

The Hungarian was quick to build on his barnstorming performance in Hannover's 4-0 win against FC Wolfsburg in his side's previous fixture, scoring after just six minutes with the Dane Leon Andreasen, adding a second less than five minutes later as Hannover looked to have the away side on the ropes early on.

But Bremen responded well and a penalty successfully converted by Aaron Hunt in the 26th minute, followed by a decent second half performance from the visitors saw them equalise through Kevin de Bruyne on the 75 minute mark.

Hannover had lost control of the match and at one point looked unlikely to even get the draw as Bremen had two goals ruled out for offside with both teams searching for the winner. In the end it came for the home side as Huszti scored with a superlative volley before being sent off after receiving a second yellow for removing his shirt in celebration.

There were plenty of goals in the Baden derby too as SC Freiburg smashed five past 1899 Hoffenheim in a fiercely-contested game that saw eight goals and seven yellow cards.

Once again early goals were the order of the day with Matthieu Delpierre capitalising on a poorly defended free-kick to tap home for Hoffenheim inside two minutes. Freiburg drew level soon after as Karim Guede struck on 17 minutes.

Max Kruse scored to make it 2-1 going into half time but Hoffenheim restored parity soon after the break as Boris Vukcevic, the Croatian having been introduced by coach Markus Babble at halftime, stumbled past the Freiburg defence to skew a left footed effort into the back of the net just before the hour mark.

The score remained 2-2 for a little over ten minutes as Freiburg once again took the lead, this time through Fallou Diagne, the Senegalese defender making it 3-2 for the home side before Hoffenheim again equalised, this time through Takashi Usami on 76 minutes.

In the end it took two late goals from Cedrick Makiadi and Sebastian Freis to finally silence Hoffenheim in a scintillating game at the Mage Solar Stadion.

There were another five goals at the Commerzbank Arena goals from Heiko Westermann and Heung Min Son proving to be in vain as Hamburg went down 3-2 to 2nd place Eintracht Frankfurt with Petr Jiracek sent off for the visitors.

Goals from Takashi Inui and Olivier Occean in the first half and ex-1860 Munich forward Stefan Aigner in the second took all three points for the home side and poured more misery on hapless HSV who find themselves joining Hoffenheim at the bottom of the table and pointless after three games. Eintracht are on the crest of a wave with maximum points and trail Bayern only on goal difference.

Elsewhere VfB Stuttgart continued their poor start to the season with a 0-0 draw at home against newly promoted Fortuna Düsseldorf. With Vedad Ibisevic serving a suspension following his dismissal in the capitulation to Bayern Munich two weeks before there was a start for Cacau, but aside from a penalty shout being ruled out for offside chances were few and far between as a resilient Düsseldorf side held on to a vital away point.

No goals at FC Augsburg either as the hosts seemed reluctant to attempt to repeat their double over the away side last season, and were instead content to hang on to their first point of the campaign, pressing and harrying a disappointing VfL Wolfsburg in a stop-start match.

Bundesliga newcomers Greuther Fürth looked abject in defeat against FC Schalke 04. The visiting side missed a hatful of chances before youngster Julian Draxler smashed in a cracking long-distance effort. Lewis Holtby added gloss to a routine victory for the Royal Blues on 88 minutes.
