Pistons Extend Winning Streak with Victory Over 76ers
The Detroit Pistons continued their impressive run in the NBA by securing their ninth consecutive win, defeating the Philadelphia 76ers 114-105 at Little Caesars Arena on November 14. This victory marks the Pistons' second triumph in a row without their leading scorers, showcasing their resilience and depth.
In a thrilling finish, the Pistons outscored the 76ers 26-15 in the fourth quarter, orchestrating a remarkable 27-9 run that began late in the third period to overcome a 12-point deficit. The 76ers struggled offensively in the final minutes, shooting only 33.3% from the field in the fourth, allowing the Pistons to secure their largest lead of the night at 114-103 with less than two minutes left on the clock.
Javonte Green was a standout performer for Detroit, contributing 21 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks. Daniss Jenkins also made a significant impact, adding 19 points and eight assists to the team's total. Isaiah Stewart returned after a brief absence due to an ankle sprain, coming off the bench to score 14 points and grab five rebounds.
In addition to Green and Jenkins, Duncan Robinson and Caris LeVert made notable contributions, scoring 15 and 14 points respectively, with Robinson also pulling down six rebounds and LeVert dishing out six assists. Tyrese Maxey led the 76ers with 31 points but could not propel his team to victory.
The Pistons faced a lengthy injury report for the second consecutive game, missing key players including Ausar Thompson, Tobias Harris, Jaden Ivey, and Marcus Sasser, alongside their two top scorers. However, the remaining roster demonstrated admirable teamwork and determination. Trailing by seven points late in the first half, the Pistons closed with a strong 28-12 run to take a 63-54 lead at halftime. They showcased their shooting ability by hitting 11 of 22 three-point attempts, including a stretch where they made six in a row.
Defensively, the Pistons were effective, limiting the 76ers to a shooting percentage of just 40% in the first half. The defensive efforts were bolstered by Reed's three blocks and Stewart's presence, which solidified their reputation as one of the league's top rim defenses. Green also made significant contributions on the perimeter, helping to contain Philadelphia's offensive options.
The Pistons will next face the Indiana Pacers, who reached the NBA Finals last season, on Monday at 7 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena. The Pacers have struggled this season, entering the matchup with a record of 1-11.
Jenkins' performance was particularly noteworthy, as he has proven himself ready for more significant playing time this season. He has scored in double figures for three consecutive games, including a critical contribution during the Pistons' late-game surge. Jenkins hit five of his eight three-point attempts and led the team in scoring during the third quarter, finishing with eight points in that period alone. His deep three-pointer at the buzzer of the third quarter electrified the crowd and capped a run that erased the Pistons' earlier deficit.
In the final quarter, Jenkins continued to play a vital role, driving to the basket to push the Pistons' lead to six points with 7:37 remaining. LeVert's back-to-back three-pointers extended the lead to 109-101 with under four minutes left, while a successful trip to the foul line and a fastbreak dunk sealed the victory for the Pistons, ensuring they maintained their strong position in the NBA standings.
