Berlin - The murder of workshop manager Ferhat D. (52) remains an enigma for investigators as they continue their search for clues two weeks after the brutal crime. On Thursday, police conducted a thorough examination of the crime scene located in a basement on Mittenwalder Straße in Kreuzberg, employing specialized chemicals to gather potential evidence.
Officers from the Berlin State Criminal Police Office (LKA) meticulously covered the area with paper and searched for fibers and blood traces, documenting and categorizing any findings over several hours. The complexity of the case is evident, as authorities have yet to identify a suspect, and the perpetrator remains at large. Moreover, the motive behind the murder is still unclear.
Ferhat D. was discovered deceased in the basement of the building on August 8. The Turkish-born Berliner was the owner of a small auto glass shop located adjacent to the basement where his body was found, lying in a pool of blood. Evidence of the crime extended into the hallway of the building.
Following the public appeal for information, the police received 16 tips from the community, none of which have led to a significant lead in the investigation. As such, both the police and the public prosecutor's office are actively seeking further witness accounts.
In the wake of the tragic incident, the auto glass shop has shut its doors. Local residents and customers have expressed their grief by placing flowers and lighting candles outside the establishment, a testament to their shock and sorrow over the loss.
The police have posed several questions to the public as part of their investigation:
Residents have been encouraged to report any relevant information to the 7th Homicide Commission of the Berlin State Criminal Police at Keithstraße 30, 10787 Berlin-Tiergarten, by phone at (030) 4664-911777, via email at lka117@polizei.berlin.de, or at any police station or through the online police service.
