Sun 4th May, 2025

The Berlin Volleys have once again demonstrated their supremacy in the German Volleyball Bundesliga, clinching the championship title for the third consecutive year. This victory marks the team's 15th overall title and their ninth in a row, further solidifying their status as the record champions of German volleyball.

In a thrilling final match held at the sold-out Max-Schmeling-Halle, which saw an attendance of 8,553 spectators, the Volleys triumphed over the SVG Lüneburg with a clean sweep, winning 3-0. The players celebrated their victory amidst showers of golden confetti, with some choosing to drink beer from their sports shoes, a tradition that has become part of their celebratory rituals.

Team captain Ruben Schott expressed his exhaustion after a grueling season, acknowledging the challenges faced but also emphasizing the satisfaction of their achievement. The Volleys faced a tough fight during the season, with Lüneburg managing to challenge them on several occasions, which only fueled their determination to secure a decisive win in the finals.

Kaweh Niroomand, the club's managing director, praised the team's performance, highlighting their exceptional teamwork and focus throughout the matches. The Lüneburg squad, who reached the finals for the first time since their Bundesliga debut eleven years ago, also received commendations for their efforts, with manager Matthias Pompe acknowledging the intensity and skill displayed by the Volleys.

While the Volleys have excelled in national competitions, achieving a remarkable triple victory this season by winning the league cup, the German cup, and the championship, they fell short in the Champions League, where they were eliminated in the early stages. This was particularly disappointing given their aspirations to advance further in the prestigious tournament.

Looking ahead, the team is set to face potential changes in its lineup, with only the departure of setter Johannes Tille confirmed as he seeks opportunities in Poland's PlusLiga. Other key players, including MVP Jake Hanes and Ruben Schott, remain under contract, but the dynamics of the roster could shift as the transfer market remains active.

As the league prepares for the upcoming season, it welcomes new teams, including SV Warnemünde and Barock Volleys MTV Ludwigsburg, which will expand the league to 15 teams. The anticipation is high for what the next season holds, especially with Lüneburg expressing a commitment to grow and become a serious contender in the future.
