Berlin Power Grid Operator Seeks New Members for Citizen Council

Thu 3rd Jul, 2025

Stromnetz Berlin is actively seeking candidates for its newly formed Citizen Council, which plays a pivotal role in advising the state-owned power grid operator on various issues. The council has been in place since May 2022, providing input on topics such as construction projects and permitting processes. With the current council's term concluding in December, the operator is inviting applications from residents of Berlin who are at least 16 years old.

The Citizen Council meets approximately three times a year, and its members also participate in specialized working groups that tackle specific challenges. One such group has recently focused on the intersection of administrative processes and infrastructure challenges, while others have explored topics like recruitment strategies for apprentices and workplace diversity.

In the previous selection cycle, a significant number of applicants hailed from the district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf. The district's mayor, Nadja Zivkovic, has expressed a desire to see similar engagement in the upcoming selection, emphasizing the benefits that community involvement brings to both the residents and the power operator. "The Citizen Council of Stromnetz Berlin demonstrates that such engagement is mutually beneficial and yields positive results for all parties involved," she remarked.

Applications for the new council are being accepted until December 25 through the official Stromnetz Berlin website. The next iteration of the Citizen Council will serve a three-year term, continuing its mission of fostering transparency and customer engagement in the energy sector.
