Berlin Mayor Engages with Families of Triplets at Annual Summer Fest

Sat 28th Jun, 2025

The annual summer festival in Berlin brought together families with multiple children, highlighting the unique challenges they face in the city. This year's event featured the Regierenden Bürgermeister (Governing Mayor) Kai Wegner, who serves as a patron to families with triplets or more since 2003. The festival included various activities, allowing children to engage in sports and games while parents connected with each other.

Among the attendees was Nevyana Georgiev, a mother of three, who expressed how the festival serves as a refreshing break from their daily routine. Living in a five-room apartment in Hellersdorf, the Georgiev family finds the limited space manageable for now, but they anticipate needing a larger living arrangement as their children grow.

Another family at the festival, the Sahins, shared their experiences of raising five children, including three-year-old twins. Hanifi Sahin, the father, mentioned the ongoing difficulties of affording basic necessities, including diapers, and expressed that a family vacation to Turkey remains financially unattainable. Despite these challenges, he relished the opportunity to spend quality time with his children at the festival.

The Doberschütz family, who were attending their final summer fest before their children turned 14, also enjoyed the day's events. Living in Marzahn-Hellersdorf, they often feel cramped in their five-bedroom apartment. However, during the festival, they appreciated the chance to bond as a family and created lasting memories.

The summer festival not only promotes community spirit but also emphasizes the importance of support for larger families in Berlin. The event serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for resources and assistance for families, ensuring they can thrive despite the challenges of urban living.

The festival concluded with the mayor encouraging families to reach out for support whenever necessary, reinforcing the commitment to assist those with multiple children in the city.
