Pantone's Color of the Year an Endless Neutral Loop

In preparation for New Year's Eve, authorities in Berlin have established several designated zones where the use of fireworks, as well as the possession of weapons and knives, is strictly prohibited. These measures aim to enhance public safety during one of the city's busiest and most festive nights.
According to police reports, the restrictions are in place at multiple prominent locations throughout the city. The affected areas include Alexanderplatz, the Steinmetzkiez quarter in Schöneberg, sections of Sonnenallee and neighboring streets in Neukölln, as well as the Admiralbrücke and adjacent roads in Kreuzberg. These zones have been specifically identified due to their high foot traffic and previous incidents during New Year's celebrations.
Additionally, extensive restrictions are implemented around major public events, such as the New Year's Eve gathering near the Brandenburg Gate and along Straße des 17. Juni. Another significant prohibited zone is located around the celebration planned by the We Are Berlin alliance at the Großer Stern. The designated area encompasses the Großer Tiergarten, parts of the Hansaviertel, and the parliamentary and government districts, reflecting the authorities' intent to cover all major event locations.
The enforcement of these prohibitions begins at 6:00 PM on December 31 and remains active until 6:00 AM on January 1. During this period, a visible police presence will be maintained in all restricted areas to ensure compliance and address any violations promptly. Officers are tasked with monitoring the observance of these rules, conducting checks, and intervening if necessary.
While the ban covers most types of fireworks and all forms of weapons and knives, there is an exception for certain small-scale pyrotechnic devices. Items classified under Category F1, such as sparklers, table fireworks, and snap bangers, are permitted even within the restricted zones. These items are considered low-risk and are allowed to ensure that residents and visitors can still celebrate in a safe and controlled manner.
Officials emphasize that the introduction of these measures is based on prior experiences with disturbances and injuries linked to the misuse of fireworks and the presence of dangerous objects during New Year's Eve festivities. By implementing targeted restrictions, the city aims to protect public safety while allowing for a festive atmosphere across Berlin.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the specific boundaries of the prohibited zones and to comply with all regulations throughout the New Year's Eve celebrations. The police have also provided information on safe alternatives and guidelines for celebrating responsibly. These efforts form part of a broader strategy to minimize accidents and maintain order during one of Berlin's largest annual public events.
