In a troubling incident in Berlin's Reinickendorf district, a 14-year-old boy and his seven-year-old sister sustained injuries after the boy, riding an E-scooter, ignored a red pedestrian signal. The event unfolded at the intersection of Aroser Allee and Gotthardstraße, where the two siblings were nearly struck by a bus.
According to police reports, the bus driver managed to perform an emergency brake to avoid the collision, but during this evasive action, the boy and his sister were subsequently hit by a car. The 14-year-old was able to leap off the scooter just in time, sustaining only scrapes and bruises on his elbow, and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
In contrast, his younger sister was not as fortunate; she suffered head injuries in the accident and was also taken to the hospital. Fortunately, authorities have indicated that her condition is not life-threatening.
This incident raises concerns about the safety of E-scooter use among young riders, particularly regarding adherence to traffic signals and pedestrian rules. As urban mobility solutions like E-scooters become more popular, it is crucial for users, especially minors, to understand and follow traffic regulations to prevent such accidents.
The local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, emphasizing the need for heightened awareness and safety measures for all road users.
