A serious incident occurred in Berlin-Lichtenberg when a two-year-old child and their mother were struck by a vehicle while crossing the street at a designated pedestrian crossing. The mother, 29 years old, was pushing her child in a stroller when they were hit by a car driven by an 84-year-old man.

The accident took place on Monday morning as the woman was attempting to cross Einbecker Straße at the intersection with Lincolnstraße, near a supermarket. The impact was severe enough to throw both the mother and child into the air, resulting in critical injuries to the young boy.

Emergency services were called to the scene, where police officers provided initial assistance until paramedics arrived. The child was subsequently taken to a hospital where he underwent emergency surgery due to life-threatening injuries. The mother was also hospitalized for treatment and observation.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that the elderly driver may not have seen the mother and child while making his turn at the intersection.

This tragic event raises concerns about pedestrian safety in urban areas, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children and their caregivers. The police are reviewing traffic camera footage and interviewing witnesses to gather more information regarding the sequence of events leading up to the collision.

The local community has expressed shock and concern over the incident, highlighting the importance of road safety measures to protect pedestrians. As investigations continue, many are calling for enhanced awareness and stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent similar accidents in the future.

Authorities remind drivers to remain vigilant, especially in areas with pedestrian crossings and to always yield to pedestrians. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
