Berlin CDU Members Rate Coalition Agreement with a Grade of 3

Sun 20th Apr, 2025

Members of the Berlin branch of the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) have assigned a grade of 3 to the coalition agreement between the Union and the SPD (Social Democratic Party). This outcome emerged from a significant survey conducted among CDU members, which has garnered attention across the country.

According to preliminary results shared with the press, the average rating for the coalition agreement, referred to as the black-red coalition, stands at a 3. Approximately half of the participants believe that this coalition represents the most reasonable option available. However, only about 10% expressed their explicit approval of the agreement.

The survey, as reported by the CDU's Secretary General, involved 1,403 participants out of a total of 12,500 party members in Berlin, marking a record level of engagement for such initiatives within the local party. Over the course of a week, members were invited to respond to twelve questions regarding the government program via an online platform. Notably, the Berlin CDU did not pose a direct question about whether members would approve of the agreement.

In a distinctive approach, the Berlin CDU has opted to consult its members regarding the coalition agreement, diverging from the practices of the national party and other CDU state branches, which have chosen not to engage their members on this matter. The Berlin CDU initiated the survey shortly after the agreement's unveiling, reaching out to members through email communications. It is important to note that the results of this survey are not binding.
