Leipzig - Two holidaymakers faced a disappointing start to their trips from Leipzig Airport due to excessive alcohol consumption. A 27-year-old man was deemed too intoxicated early in the morning, prompting the pilot to abort the flight to Mallorca.

According to the Federal Police, the first report came in on Thursday morning shortly after 6 AM, indicating that the young man was unresponsive in his seat. Following this alarming situation, the flight captain decided to halt the takeoff procedure. Emergency services and the Federal Police were notified, and the man was escorted from the secure area after receiving medical attention.

A voluntary breathalyzer test revealed an alarming blood alcohol content of 1.7 promille. He was subsequently picked up, leaving him to face the consequences of his actions and ridicule from friends and family.

In a similar incident later that day, a 45-year-old man was stopped at the gate before his flight to Funchal, Portugal. His noticeable alcohol smell and erratic behavior raised concerns among airport staff. The pilot, prioritizing safety, opted to exclude this passenger from the flight. Upon assessment, the Federal Police recorded his blood alcohol level at over 3 promille, leading to his removal from the secure area as well.

The Leipzig Federal Police issued a reminder that while it is common to celebrate the start of a vacation with a drink, excessive alcohol consumption can lead to serious consequences. The airline may impose costs associated with the canceled flight on the intoxicated individuals, while the memories of their anticipated holiday remain forever out of reach.
