Airbus A380 Makes Rare Appearance at Berlin Brandenburg Airport

Fri 2nd May, 2025

This evening, the Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) will welcome a remarkable guest: the Airbus A380, renowned as the largest passenger aircraft in the world. Measuring 70 meters in length and capable of accommodating up to 850 passengers, this magnificent plane is set to land at 6:45 PM on the southern runway in Schönefeld.

The A380-800, operated by the charter airline Hi Fly Malta on behalf of Global Airlines, is arriving from Barcelona. This rare landing presents an exceptional opportunity for aviation enthusiasts to witness the impressive aircraft up close at the capital's airport. Following its arrival, the aircraft is scheduled to take off for London Gatwick Airport the next morning at 11 AM.

As reported, the A380 will approach the airport from the east, likely flying over Eichwalde due to the prevailing weather conditions. The best vantage points for spectators to observe the landing are near the eastern end of the southern runway. However, changes to the flight path may occur unexpectedly, so enthusiasts are encouraged to stay updated.

For those keen on tracking the live location of the aircraft, platforms like Flightradar24 and FlightAware provide real-time flight data.

Upon landing, the Airbus A380 will park on the southern side of the apron, directly opposite the visitor terrace at Terminal 1. This terrace, open from 8 AM to 10 PM, offers guests a clear view of the tarmac, with an entry fee of three euros per person. Reservations for a time slot of 90 minutes must be made in advance on the airport's website.

The Airbus A380 is notable not just for its size; with a wingspan of approximately 80 meters, it dwarfs smaller aircraft like the Airbus A320, which typically services shorter, intra-European flights with only 168 seats. This marks only the fourth time that the A380 has been seen at BER, following its previous appearances during test flights and the International Aerospace Exhibition (ILA) in 2018.

Despite being equipped to handle the A380 regularly, the airport's infrastructure has seen modifications, including a passenger bridge adorned with decorative elements that ensure compatibility with this double-decker aircraft.
