Accused Funeral Director Found Dead Before Trial

Fri 2nd May, 2025

Regensburg, Bavaria - In a shocking turn of events, Thomas B., a 55-year-old funeral director accused of murdering his ex-partner, was discovered dead in his prison cell on the morning of his scheduled trial. The trial was set to take place at the Regional Court in Amberg, one year after the tragic death of 19-year-old Marie G.

Authorities confirmed that Thomas B. was found unresponsive at approximately 7:12 AM by prison officials. His death has raised numerous questions, particularly regarding the unresolved case surrounding Marie's death, which has now been indefinitely postponed.

Thomas B., who was reportedly married and had an adult son, had consistently denied the allegations against him. Defense attorney Christian Reiser expressed his surprise at the news of his client's passing. Thomas B. faced substantial evidence, including blood traces from the victim found at his residence in Maxhütte-Haidhof and GPS data that placed him at the scene of the crime.

The prosecution's case alleged that Thomas B. killed Marie on May 3, 2024, after she expressed her intention to leave him for a younger funeral director. Marie's body was discovered in the trunk of her Opel Corsa parked in a Regensburg parking garage, raising serious concerns about the circumstances leading to her death.

Marie had recently completed her studies at the Bad Kissingen funeral school, graduating with top marks, before making the decision to end her relationship with Thomas B. The day of her murder, she reportedly communicated with a new partner while preparing to confront Thomas about their relationship.

Evidence presented by the prosecution suggested that between 5:37 PM and 6:13 PM, Thomas B. struck Marie with a blunt object and subsequently strangled her. It is believed that he may have sent a final message to Marie's new partner, as the text appeared to deviate from her usual style.

Following the alleged incident, it is suspected that Thomas B. attempted to dispose of Marie's body by transporting it to a cemetery, a claim supported by digital evidence. This act, as per investigators, suggested an intention to conceal the crime.

Furthermore, the indictment detailed a previous attempted murder by Thomas B. against his wife two years prior, where he allegedly attempted to strangle her using an electrical cord. She survived the attack.

Marie was laid to rest in accordance with her wishes, in a white wooden coffin adorned with blue flowers. The investigation into the circumstances of Thomas B.'s death is now being conducted by the Amberg Criminal Police Department.

In light of these events, Marie's father expressed his heartbreak over the situation, as he had hoped for clarity regarding his daughter's death through the upcoming trial. The tragic end to this case has left many unanswered questions as the community grapples with the aftermath of these events.
