BenQ is set to introduce its new 27-inch monitor, the PD2730S, aimed at competing with Apple's Studio Display. This model offers a 5K resolution and is expected to provide a more affordable alternative, priced at $1,200, which is $400 less than Apple's offering.
The PD2730S is marketed as a designer monitor, featuring Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, although it does not utilize the latest Thunderbolt 5 standard. While specific details about the display's panel remain unclear, BenQ emphasizes the monitor's compatibility with Mac devices, particularly the MacBook. The display covers 98% of the P3 color space and offers connections via USB-C, DisplayPort, and HDMI.
With a peak brightness of 400 cd/m², the monitor supports HDR10 and boasts a native contrast ratio of 2000:1, along with a refresh rate of 60Hz. The matte finish of the screen is designed to reduce glare, making it suitable for various lighting conditions.
In terms of power delivery, the Thunderbolt 4 ports can provide up to 90 watts, which may be insufficient for high-performance devices like the MacBook Pro. In addition to the Thunderbolt 4 ports, the PD2730S includes two USB-C ports and three USB-A ports, along with a headphone jack.
One notable feature is the monitor's VESA mount compatibility, allowing for easy installation on alternative stands or wall mounts without the need for additional hardware. The resolution of the PD2730S is set at 5120 x 2880 pixels.
Currently, the monitor is not yet available for purchase, with pre-orders listed on the U.S. website. However, it is not yet featured on the German site. Interestingly, BenQ also offers the PD3226G, a 32-inch Thunderbolt 4 monitor retailing for $1,100, though it only supports 4K resolution.
