In Schortens, a disturbing incident occurred on June 1, 2025, at approximately 4:15 PM, when an unidentified driver dangerously overtook a 14-year-old cyclist on Heinrich-Tönjes-Straße. The young cyclist was riding his bicycle when the vehicle passed him without maintaining a safe distance.
As the driver cut back into the lane in front of the cyclist, they abruptly braked, forcing the teenager to perform an emergency stop to avoid a collision. Unfortunately, this maneuver resulted in the boy losing his balance and falling onto the sidewalk.
The driver did not stop to check on the cyclist and continued driving without offering assistance. Following the incident, local authorities have launched an appeal for witnesses who may have information regarding the vehicle involved or details about the driver.
Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the Jever police station at the phone number 04461 7449-0. The investigation is ongoing as police seek to gather further evidence and identify the responsible party.
This incident highlights the critical importance of road safety, particularly for vulnerable road users such as cyclists. It serves as a reminder for all drivers to exercise caution and respect the space of those sharing the road.
