Two Years After the Attack: A Day of Remembrance in Israel

Tue 7th Oct, 2025

On the second anniversary of the tragic Hamas attack in Israel, cultural state minister Wolfram Weimer expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. He emphasized that October 7 is a day of sorrow for Israel and for Jewish communities around the world. Weimer reflected on the ongoing plight of hostages, stating that their families have endured two unbearable years filled with fear and despair.

In his remembrance, Weimer highlighted the young individuals who were targeted during the Nova Music Festival, which took place near the Gaza Strip. These individuals gathered peacefully to celebrate life and music, only to fall victim to a violent act. The attack on the festival represented not just a loss of life but also an assault on culture itself. Weimer noted that culture thrives on freedom and creates spaces for diversity and connection, making the Nova Music Festival a target of deep-seated hatred.

Today, Weimer plans to visit an exhibition at the former Berlin-Tempelhof Airport that documents the Hamas attack on the festival, further underscoring the impact of this tragedy on both the local and global community. The exhibition aims to honor the victims and raise awareness about the broader implications of such violence on cultural gatherings and the arts.

As the day unfolds, memorials and reflections continue across Israel and among Jewish communities worldwide, reinforcing the message of resilience and the importance of remembering those lost to acts of terror.
