Turkish Authorities Arrest Another Opposition Mayor Amid Crackdown

In a continuing effort to suppress dissent, Turkish authorities have arrested the mayor of Sile, a district in Istanbul, along with several city officials. The Turkish news agency Demiroren reported that the local mayor, Özgür Kabadayi, who is affiliated with the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), was taken into custody on Thursday. The specific allegations against Kabadayi and the other officials remain unclear at this time.

This latest arrest follows a series of detentions that occurred just days prior when three mayors from major Turkish cities were also detained, marking an escalation in the government's crackdown on CHP members. Since October of the previous year, hundreds of individuals associated with the CHP have faced legal scrutiny.
