Tragic Helicopter Crash Claims Eight Lives in Ghana

A devastating helicopter accident in Ghana has resulted in the loss of eight lives, including two government ministers. The incident occurred when a military helicopter, which had taken off from the capital city of Accra, disappeared from radar while en route to Obuasi.

Among the deceased were the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Environment, alongside the Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Muhammad, and Samuel Sarpong, the Vice Chair of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). The helicopter was carrying five passengers and three crew members at the time of the crash.

Photos from the crash site depict the helicopter overturned, with flames engulfing wreckage. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but local reports suggest that adverse weather conditions may have played a role in the incident. Matthew Baah, a local lawmaker, indicated in a radio interview that poor weather was prevalent during the flight.

In light of this tragedy, President John Mahama has expressed condolences to the families of the victims, emphasizing the national significance of the loss. He has canceled all official engagements for the day, and flags across the nation have been lowered to half-mast. The President described the incident as a 'national tragedy,' reflecting the profound impact of this loss on the country.
