Police Officer Injured in Traffic Collision During Emergency Response in Berlin

Berlin - A police officer was injured in a serious traffic accident while responding to an emergency call related to a robbery. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at the intersection of Konstanzer Straße and Wittelsbacher Straße in the district of Wilmersdorf. The police vehicle, responding with lights and sirens, collided with another car, resulting in injuries to four individuals.

Initially, one officer was reported to be in critical condition and was airlifted to a hospital. Fortunately, this officer is now out of danger. The driver of the other vehicle, a 41-year-old man, was also hospitalized with multiple fractures and had to be extricated from his car.

Alongside the two injured officers, another male and female officer were treated at a local hospital but have since been released.

According to reports, the police vehicle was navigating through slow-moving traffic when it entered the opposite lane. The 41-year-old driver was traveling in the same direction and intended to turn left at the Wittelsbacher Straße, leading to the collision with the police car approaching from behind.

An alcohol breath test conducted on the police officer revealed a reading of 0.0 percent, indicating no alcohol consumption. Investigations into the precise circumstances of the accident are ongoing, with expert analysts involved to determine the specifics of the incident.

The Police Union (GdP) has issued a warning regarding the dangers associated with emergency response driving. The union emphasized that while such responses are crucial for assisting individuals in distress, they carry inherent risks. The urgency of these situations can lead to accidents, even with heightened vigilance from emergency personnel.
