Notion Mail Launches: AI-Powered Email Client Enhances Gmail Management

Notion has introduced Notion Mail, a new email client designed specifically for Gmail that incorporates artificial intelligence to streamline inbox management. This innovative client not only organizes emails but also assists users by drafting responses and scheduling meetings.

One of the key features of Notion Mail is its ability to automatically categorize incoming emails using AI technology. Users can create custom labels, and the application will assign these labels to messages accordingly. This functionality aims to simplify the handling of overflowing inboxes and enhance productivity when dealing with emails. In the interface, users will see these labels displayed alongside individual emails, and there is an option for a customizable view that shows all emails related to a specific keyword.

Additionally, Notion Mail allows users to generate text snippets and review their drafted emails. Frequently used phrases can be saved as templates for quick access. With an integration to Notion Calendar, users can also create a single or recurring link to display available times in their calendars. This feature can be shared via email, eliminating the need for back-and-forth scheduling when organizing meetings.

The infrastructure supporting Notion Mail is built on Skiff, a collaboration platform acquired by Notion in 2024. Currently, the email client is available as a web app, desktop application for Windows and macOS, and a mobile app for Android devices, with an iOS version in development.

In tandem with Notion Mail, Anthropic has enabled integration of its AI chatbot, Claude, with Gmail accounts via Google Workspace. This allows Claude to access not only emails but also Google Calendar and Google Docs, providing context for chat interactions. Users can leverage Claude to generate emails that reference the contents of their documents without needing to re-enter the information. The chatbot provides direct citations and identifies the sources of the information used.

Moreover, administrators can activate indexing features that catalog company documents, facilitating quick access to essential information. In contrast to other AI integrations like Google Gemini, Anthropic's connection to Google Workspace is directly through available tools, while ChatGPT interfaces with Google's productivity suite via Google Drive.

As Gmail continues to evolve, it is incorporating more native AI functionalities, such as enhanced inbox sorting. The integration of Notion Mail and Anthropic's Claude is currently in beta for all Anthropic customers with paid subscriptions, with administrators managing multiple accounts required to link their user accounts first.
