Mediatek Unveils Enhanced Dimensity 9400+ Processor with Improved Performance and Connectivity

Mediatek has launched its latest smartphone processor, the Dimensity 9400+, which builds on the features of its predecessor while offering significant improvements in speed and functionality.

As one of the most widely used smartphone chipsets globally, Mediatek continues to expand its market presence, particularly in the premium segment and within Europe. The Dimensity 9400+ increases the clock speed of its cores while maintaining the same core architecture as the previous version. The processor consists of an advanced Cortex-X925 core, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. The standout change is that the maximum clock speed of the Cortex-X925 has been boosted from 3.62 GHz in the Dimensity 9400 to 3.73 GHz in the new model. However, Mediatek has not disclosed the clock speeds for the other cores. The graphics processing unit (GPU), the Immortalis-G925, remains the same with twelve cores.

In addition to the enhanced clock speeds, Mediatek has retained the cache configurations. The Level-2 caches are set at 2 MB for the Cortex-X925, 1 MB for the Cortex-X4 cores, and 512 KB for the Cortex-A720 cores. The Level-3 cache, which was upgraded from 8 MB to 12 MB in the Dimensity 9400, is also present in the 9400+. The system-level cache remains at 10 MB.

Another significant enhancement introduced with the Dimensity 9400+ is the support for additional AI models, including the Deepseek-R1-Distill on-device. Mediatek claims a 20% performance increase in Agentic AI functionalities thanks to the new Speculative Decoding (SpD+) technology.

The company has also made improvements to the communication capabilities of the processor. The Bluetooth range has been significantly expanded, allowing for direct connections between smartphones to cover distances up to ten kilometers, more than six times the range of the Dimensity 9400. Additionally, the processor is designed to achieve the first GPS fix 33% faster, and it now supports communication with BeiDou satellites. Furthermore, the built-in Wi-Fi 7 modem is expected to provide an additional 30 meters of Wi-Fi coverage.

Smartphones powered by the Dimensity 9400+ are anticipated to launch in the latter half of the year, with the Xiaomi 15T being a potential candidate. In recent years, Xiaomi has frequently utilized Mediatek processors for its T-series, while its other models typically feature Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon chips. It remains to be seen whether the Dimensity 9400+ will also power devices beyond smartphones and tablets.
