Lenovo has introduced the Legion Go 2, a handheld gaming PC boasting impressive specifications, including AMD's fastest processor for handheld devices, an OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, and durable Hall-effect joystick technology in detachable controller modules. However, this advanced hardware comes with a significant price tag.
The base model of Legion Go 2, which features the slower Ryzen Z2 processor, starts at EUR999. This configuration includes 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. For those seeking the complete experience with the upgraded Ryzen Z2 Extreme, prices can soar up to around EUR1500.
The Ryzen Z2 processor is a revamped version of the previous Z1 Extreme, featuring eight Zen-4 cores and 768 RDNA-3 shaders. In contrast, the more expensive Ryzen Z2 Extreme configuration integrates three Zen-5 cores alongside five Zen 5c cores and 1024 RDNA-3.5 shaders, offering significant performance enhancements.
OLED Display with Variable Refresh RateThe Legion Go 2 sports an 8.8-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. This screen is capable of dynamic refresh rates ranging from 30Hz to 144Hz thanks to FreeSync technology. For the first time among handheld PCs with AMD internals, Lenovo combines OLED technology with a 144Hz refresh rate. While the resolution is slightly lower than that of its predecessor, this adjustment aids in maintaining higher frame rates during gaming sessions. The display boasts a typical brightness of 500 cd/m², with peak brightness reaching 1000 cd/m² in select areas.
Operating System and Design FeaturesUnlike the previous Legion Go S, which utilized Valve's SteamOS, the Legion Go 2 reverts to Windows 11 as its operating system. However, users have the option to install SteamOS themselves if preferred.
Similar to its predecessor and Nintendo's Switch consoles, the side controllers of the Legion Go 2 are detachable. The main tablet unit has a thickness of 23mm and weighs 710g, making it one of the heavier and bulkier handheld PCs on the market, with a total weight of 930g when including the controllers.
The device is set to begin shipping later this September. For those who can forgo the OLED technology and detachable controllers, Lenovo continues to offer the more affordable Legion Go S starting at EUR829. Alternative options from other manufacturers are available at even lower price points.
